You don’t.
You just kind of have to take me at my word.
I really struggle with peddled vs. pedaled.
And I’m ever grateful to my husband for ensuring that the OVC characters weren’t selling wares up and down the street.
Sometimes I type too fast and I spell character’s names wrong.
The worst offenders are Darius and Sheila. I find instances of “Dairus” and “Shelia” more often than I want to admit.
I often leave out random important words (like “an” or “to”) and don’t find them until my third pass through a manuscript.
And even then, I am so appreciative of my beta readers, who catch the ones I missed and point them out to me.
I struggle with defiantly vs. definitely.
I mean for the characters to be certain, not for them to refuse to obey authority.
(But hey, they are preteens, and they have been known to be defiant.)
